Articles:Determinations of occupational exposures and health effects from the workers of industries for producing fitness equipments

  • Publication Date:2014-07-25

The working process in the production of fitness equipments includes welding, spray paint, assembly, test, packing and administration. The heavy metal, reactive oxygen species (ROS) might exist in their working departments. Therefore, the purpose of this study aims to assess the levels of metals and ROS activity generated from the manufacturing process and to assess the biological effects markers including malondialdehyde, DNA srand beaks, tail moment, telomere length (TL), tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α) and high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP).

The present study has shown that the highest ROS levels was found in welding area, and the following was in spray paint area. The metals analysis was below than PEL-TWA in all working areas; the highest ROS levels were found in manual welding areas and auto-welding areas. TNF-α and MDA levels were higher in exposure worker than in control workers, whereas for TL analysis. The result indicated that the infl ammation and oxidative damage have elicited in this kind of workers.

The present study showed that occupational Mn exposure and particulates ROS exposure would be in related to the oxidative damage and the short of TL. The TL shortening seemed to be as a new marker of cardiovascular disease, which might be in related to higher high-density lipoprotein cholesterol or at hypertensive subjects with increased leukocyte oxidative damage.
